GETTING naked has opened up a world of possibilities for Footscray business woman Tamra Mercieca.
But before you get too excited, the kind of getting naked that Ms Mercieca is interested in is stripping back the mental – not physical – layers.
The former Gold FM newsreader struggled with severe clinical depression from a young age and started looking into alternative therapies when her parents wanted to put her in a mental home.
That was her wake-up call.
“I started experimenting and using myself as a guinea pig – I joined a laughter yoga group, and I did a wellness course where I learnt all about nutrition, then I started seeing a woman that dealt with subconscious mind techniques and, within the first session, there was such a big shift in the depression.”
Ms Mercieca became qualified in NLP, time-line therapy, hypnosis and wholebrain intelligence and developed her own 10-session structure to help get other people depression and pill-free – and Getting Naked was born.
“The idea is stripping back all the layers mentally, so helping people clearing out all their junk, but keeping it in a really funky and fun way, because there’s so many self-help places that are a bit sales-oriented,” she said.
She has also written two books, The Upside of Down: A Personal Journey and Toolkit for Overcoming Depression, and Getting Naked – the Dating Game, and will next year release a cook book filled with healthy, organic, simple recipes.
This year Ms Mercieca is touring with Sexpo Australia as their Relationship and sex therapist.
To top it off, she is a nominee in this year’s 2013 Telstra Business Woman of the Year awards.
“I entered because I wanted to be able to share the brand with more people,” she said.
